About Someware in
Vermont
| Someware in Vermont was
founded in 1988 by Bruce Chalmer, Ph.D., a
statistician and psychologist. Bruce had written the statistics textbook Understanding
Statistics, published by Marcel Dekker, Inc. a
few years before, which included a statistical package for PCs as an addendum. When Bruce
decided to write a new, more powerful statistical software package, which became EcStatic
for DOS, he started Someware in Vermont to market it. EcStatic, now in its Windows-based
version, has gone on to become the choice of a wide variety of statistics instructors,
students, and researchers who were looking for intelligently designed, easy-to-use
software at an affordable price. |

Our most recent product,
Gus and Gertie's Graphin' Gadget, was
conceived when Bruce's oldest son, Micah, was
a high school sophomore and had to buy a graphing calculator for about $80. Micah was
already an accomplished programmer by then, having co-written the Windows version of
EcStatic with Bruce. When Bruce considered that a lot of schools might not be able to ask
their students to spend $80 for a calculator, but probably did have computer facilities in
school, he realized that a software-based graphing calculator at the right price would
have a very large potential market. Micah took on the task, and the result was Gus and
Gertie's Graphin' Gadget. |
